Community Voices I: What We Heard

On August 1, 2026, People Need People welcomed the St. John community to our very first Community Voices gathering—a space created for people to come together, share openly, and have meaningful conversations about the experiences, challenges, and hopes shaping our community.

Throughout the evening, residents of different ages and backgrounds took a seat at the table to discuss what is hardest right now, what our community is missing, and what they hope to see improve in the years ahead. The conversations touched on important topics including housing, healthcare, education, youth opportunities, support for elders, infrastructure, cost of living, community connection, and more.

More than anything, our first Community Voices event confirmed what we already believed: people have something to say, and there is value in creating space to listen.

This report offers a look into what we heard that evening—the concerns that surfaced, the ideas that were shared, and the priorities that continued to emerge throughout the conversation.

The conversation was only the beginning.
