Our Story

People Need People was founded by two best friends born and raised in St. John, with generations of family deeply rooted in the islands we proudly call home. Growing up on St. John, we watched our community evolve—embracing change while holding onto the beauty, resilience, and traditions that make Virgin Islands culture so unique.

As the islands continued to grow and welcome new residents, we recognized the importance of ensuring that the voices, traditions, and perspectives of longtime Virgin Islanders remained an important part of shaping our community's future. We knew our people weren't lacking talent, creativity, or determination. What many needed were greater access to opportunities, resources, and meaningful connections.

What began as a vision to support entrepreneurship soon became something much bigger.

We realized that strengthening our community wasn't only about helping people start businesses—it was about preserving our culture, creating opportunities, building relationships, and ensuring that the people of the Virgin Islands have a voice in shaping the future of the place we call home.

Then came the realization that changed everything:

We don't believe the future of the Virgin Islands will be shaped by any one organization. It will be shaped by people working together.

That belief became the foundation of our name: People Need People.

We believe lasting change happens when neighbors support neighbors, organizations collaborate, and communities come together to listen, learn, and take action.

Today, what began as the dream of two lifelong friends has grown into a passionate board of women with deep roots throughout the Virgin Islands—women who are committed to preserving our culture, strengthening our communities, and creating opportunities for generations to come.

Together, we're building a future where people feel seen, supported, empowered, and proud to call these islands home.

Our Mission

People Need People (PNP) empowers youth, adults, and elders across St. John—and ultimately throughout the Virgin Islands—to embrace their authentic selves, celebrate their cultural identity, and build meaningful connections that strengthen our community.

Through mentorship, educational opportunities, community engagement, and access to valuable resources, we foster personal growth, leadership, professional development, and lifelong relationships. We are committed to inspiring individuals to discover their purpose, uplift one another, and create lasting, positive change rooted in unity, cultural pride, and mutual support.

Our Vision

We envision a thriving Virgin Islands community where every person feels connected, empowered, and proud of their cultural heritage. A community where opportunities are accessible, relationships are meaningful, and individuals of every generation work together to preserve our traditions while building a stronger future.

Our vision is to cultivate a lasting legacy of leadership, service, and belonging—where people invest in one another, strengthen their communities, and ensure future generations inherit a Virgin Islands that remains vibrant, resilient, and deeply rooted in its identity.
